On Saturday’s, my Dad and I do the ParkRun. They organise free weekly timed runs all over the world. They are open to everyone, and are safe and easy to take part in. I’ve only just started getting in to in but I am really enjoying it.
As I was running today, I saw a woman with a pink top, which had “Running Honeys” written on it. I don’t know why, but this really annoyed me. As I said in my “#ThisGirlCan” blog, I feel like women can run just as fast, if not faster than men and the fact it says “Honneys” it sounds like they (whoever they are) are patronising women. When people talk down to others they use words like ‘honey’ or ‘love’ and I know that when some people use these words they are being endearing not patronising, but I feel in this particular occasion it was patronising.
This is a very ranty blog, but it’s something that really irritates me. I'm a feminist and I feel, as quite a few people do, that feminism is about equality and not about the ‘us better than them’ mentality. For example, when women say “let’s get the men to do it, they’re big and strong” I hate it. Why are we putting ourselves down, we are probably very capable to do these jobs too, but because of what society tells us we don’t believe we are as “big and strong” as men.
I will stop here or else I will be typing for days, but I’ll probably touch on this more in the future!
